New Mexico Dietitian License Types

Licensed Dietitian

Requires current CDR registration (RD/RDN credential), including passage of the CDR examination. As of 2024, CDR requires a minimum master's degree from an ACEND-accredited program.

Licensed Nutritionist

Requires a master's or doctorate in a nutrition-related field from an accredited institution, OR current membership in the ACBN or ASN.

How to Apply for a New Mexico Licensed Dietitian

Register & Apply Online

Create an account and submit your application through the NM RLD Boards & Commissions portal.

Submit Required Documents

Upload or arrange delivery of your CDR card, official transcripts, and complete the mandatory background check.

Pay Fees

Submit the $50 non-refundable application fee. Upon board approval, you will be prompted to pay the $150 initial license fee to activate your license.

Provisional Practice & Reciprocity

Provisional Rules

Dietitians and nutritionists who have completed all education and supervised experience requirements but have not yet passed the CDR examination may apply for a provisional permit. This allows practice while awaiting exam results.

Reciprocity & Endorsement

New Mexico recognizes licensure from other states with standards at least as stringent as its own. Applicants must provide copies of all licenses and arrange for official verification to be sent directly to the Board.
