How to Apply

  1. Complete Approved Training Program
    Successfully complete a state-approved Nurse Aide Training Program (NATP) in Massachusetts, as required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
  2. Apply for Examination
    Create an account and submit your application to take the Nurse Aide Competency Examination (NACE) through the Prometric Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry Portal.
  3. Schedule Examination

  4. Pass Examination
    Take and successfully pass both the written/oral and skills components of the NACE.

    Upon successful completion of the examination, Prometric will automatically add your name to the Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry. No further action is required from the applicant for initial listing.

    Massachusetts requires a criminal background check for all applicants. Out-of-state applicants can use IdentoGO Out-of-State Live Scan OR FD-258 hard card via mail. Completing prints outside Massachusetts can add 2-4 weeks to your processing time.
  6. Await Board Processing
    Plan for a processing timeline of about 1 to 2 Weeks once your file is complete. If you need to start working immediately, most states do not offer temporary practice authorization for CNAs during the endorsement process. Contact the state nurse aide registry directly for current policies on practice authorization while your application is pending.
