Requirements
Maine provides licensure by endorsement for applicants holding a substantially equivalent license in another state or holding active registration as a Registered Dietitian with the CDR. A verification of licensure from the other state(s) must be provided.

Steps

  1. Submit Your Application
Apply through the Board of Licensing of Dietetic Practice. The application fee is $150.
  2. Provide License Verification
Maine requires official verification of your active out-of-state license. This must be sent directly to the board from your current state board or its official online verification system before your file can be considered complete.
  3. Confirm Your CDR Registration Card
Proof of active registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  4. Provide Criminal History Records Check
Processed internally by the Board upon receipt of the $21 fee with an application.
  5. Request Official College Transcripts
May be required if not submitting primary source verification via the CDR.
  6. Complete Fingerprinting and Background Screening
Maine requires a criminal background check for all applicants. Out-of-state applicants can use IdentoGO Out-of-State Live Scan (adds ~$39.95 fee) OR FD-258 hard card via mail (tip: moisturize hands for days prior to reduce smudge rejects). Completing prints outside Maine can add 2-4 weeks to your processing time.
  7. Await Board Processing
Plan for a processing timeline of about 2 Weeks once your file is complete. If you need to start working immediately, most states do not offer temporary practice authorization during the endorsement process. Contact the state board directly for current policies on practice authorization while your application is pending.
  8. Register and Apply Online
Create an account or log in to the Professional Licensing Online Portal (MyLicense). Select 'Dietitian' from the list of professions and complete the online application form, providing your personal, educational, and professional history.
  9. Board Review
The Board of Complementary Health Care Providers will review your complete application and all supporting documentation. Applications are typically reviewed at scheduled Board meetings.
  10. Receive Licensure Notification
Upon approval by the Board, you will receive notification of your Maine Dietitian (LD) license.
