Pass the CDR Examination

Successfully pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Registration Examination for Dietitians.

Submit the Online Application

Apply online through the IPLA licensing portal. Pay the $20 non-refundable application fee. Include two passport-style photographs and a copy of your current CDR registration card.

Complete Fingerprint Background Check

Submit to a mandatory fingerprint-based criminal background check. The fingerprinting fee is paid separately to the designated vendor.

Application Checklist

  • Official College Transcripts Sent directly from the university, showing degree in an approved field and date awarded.
  • CDR Registration Card Copy of your current, active Commission on Dietetic Registration credential.
  • Two Passport-Style Photographs Recent photographs meeting standard passport specifications.
  • Fingerprint Background Check Mandatory fingerprint-based criminal background screening.

Provisional Practice & Reciprocity

Provisional Rules
Indiana does not offer a provisional or temporary dietitian certification. Applicants must hold active CDR registration and complete all requirements before certification is issued.
Reciprocity & Endorsement
Indiana does not have a formal endorsement or reciprocity pathway. Out-of-state dietitians apply through the standard application process. Holding current CDR registration satisfies the education and examination requirements. You must still submit the application, $20 fee, transcripts, and complete the Indiana fingerprint background check.
Travel Dietitian Timeline
If your assignment start date is within 5 weeks, apply immediately and call the board at (317) 234-2060 to confirm current processing times.
